Belstaff Crosby Jacket - Black

The Crosby is not a single jacket, but rather a style that comes in a myriad of fabrics and weights. To us, however, the Crosby is the perfect length for a motorcycle jacket.

For some people, the longer Trialmaster is the jacket to go for. With its four press-stud pockets, longer length, and centre waist belt, it is certainly a recognized, classic style made popular by a generation of post-war trial riders; including of course Steve McQueen in Germany in 1964.

But if you're challenged on the stature front, the Trialmaster is sometimes simply too long; it comes down to the middle of the thigh, and it can make you look as though you've got no legs!

The other iconic jacket from Belstaff is the Mojave, a shorter more blouson-styled jacket. It's a great jacket, but for some riders on some bikes, it is simply too short, and can leave a draughty gap between the jacket and pants.

Which is why we are such fans of the Crosby. It sits directly between these two popular styles. But until now, the Crosby has been a summer jacket only; it was slightly too light and flimsy for all-year-round use.

Well the latest Crosby, with its six-ounce waxed cotton fabric, at last becomes a serious biker jacket. In fact, we think six ounces is pretty much the perfect weight, and it should be far more wearable and easier to live with than the rather heavy 10 ounce Trialmaster.

This new Crosby has a fully seam-sealed Miporex waterproof and windproof liner. It doesn't have a thermal liner, but that's fine by us. If it gets too cold, just wear a jumper.

Like all Belstaff motorcycle jackets, the new Crosby has CE approved D3O armour in the shoulders and elbows. There is, of course, a pocket for a back protector.

Most of the other stuff is standard fare for Belstaff. Corduroy in the neck and cuffs. Upper flap pockets. Lower jet pockets. Metal aerators under the arms. Reinforcements on shoulders and elbows. Adjusters at the cuffs, neck and, most importantly, at the waist. The lower two buttons are covered in rubber.

This really is the most versatile and usable of all Belstaff's Pure Motorcycle wax cotton jackets. We think it's the one to have; the sensible, yet still ultra-stylish, option. Product Code: BEL1021
