The Great Mile 2018
By Robert Nightingale - 14 Aug 18
The Great Mile '18 Rally - This year the Malle team embarked on the second British rally adventure - billed as the 'longest and most inappropriate motorcycle rally in the land’. It sets the challenge for a 5 stage rally, over 1250 miles of tiny twisting roads through all of the wildest landscapes in mainland Britain, with eccentric castles, parties, rider dinners and motorcycle races in the rally camp each night.
This years 'Malle Rally’ included custom motorcycles from Autofabrica, Down & Out and Old Empire Motorcycles, as well as a varied mix of 80’s BMW rally bikes, 50’s Triumph Scramblers, modern Harleys, Ducatis, BMWs, Norton Cafe-Racers and almost everything in between - suitably, none of which were designed for this type of cross-country adventure. Calum from deBolex Engineering was heading-up the rally support team to ensure every weird and wonderful motorcycle completed the course, with custom builders Sinroja also joining the Malle team and marshaling the rally checkpoints down the country.
Motoring photographer Amy Shore joined the rally this year, riding with the BMW Motorad team - are just some of the highlights she captured. Word has it that next years rally will be held "backwards” from the southern tip of England to the northern tip of Scotland - a change of scenery, in reverse.
