Kevils MOTO #3

Kevils MOTO #3
kevils 1 Here we have the latest airhead to roll out of Kevils Speed Shop, those perennial BMW specialists operating out of Paignton, Devon. Wait a minute... Stop the press, hold the freaking phone. What have they done with those shin worrying cylinders? Some serious origami magic must have been deployed on this wide wagon to fold those lugs up on themselves and into that single pot motor? It is barely recognisable from its original boxer format, the purists eyes will roll... Over to Kev to explain. kevils 2 "For quite a while now, a few potential customers have enquired if Kevils build custom bikes other than BMW, So we’ve taken the opportunity to broaden our customer base by using our talents; gained through years of BMW bike building experience, to create a limited number of smaller capacity affordable custom cotorcycles branded as 'Kevils MOTO' all will be numbered rather than named." It turns out that this is in fact the third non Beemer base that Kev and his team have set their spanners to following on from a cracking pair of 125s (one of which is still available here). For MOTO #3 they began with the capable but visually dreary Honda CBF250. kevils 3 They stripped the clean 13,000 mile donor back to the frame and set to work on the lithe street scrambler gleaned from the drawing board doodles. A 70s Honda CB tank was teased into position before a simplified rear subframe was designed and fabricated to work with the new stance. The frame, original five spoke wheels and custom alloy mudguards were then sent for a good covering of satin black powder coat. kevils 4 The battery was re-homed under the swing arm to maximise the space in the tail section which was fitted with a thin yet comfortable brown leather seat. The standard downpipe received a good wrapping and a matte black megaphone muffler to beef up the exhaust tone. Bates lighting fore and aft, braced MX bars, LED indicators and a Koso Digital speedometer complete the details while a metallic grey and vibrant red paint scheme lends a welcome pop of colour. Chunky Conti Tkc tyres complete the look. kevils 5 When #3 arrived at Bike Shed London to take up residency in arch three we all descended in an instant keen to check out in the metal the latest member of the Kevils fleet, it does not disappoint. The little Honda motor, now relieved of its neighbouring plastic shrouds looks substantial yet light and the elegantly modified frame elevates the machine above its cookie cutter heritage. kevils 6 This new range of low capacity affordable machines from the Kevils workshop are marketed as the perfect steed for a test fresh rider but they have also been turning the heads of all comers here at the 'Shed, they make a hell of a lot of sense in the city. MOTO#3 is up for sale so if you are tempted head on down to London, EC1v 9LT and take a look. More from Kevils Speed Shop here Bike Shed Archive | Web | Facebook | Instagram
